Rainbow Row is a series of 13 colorful historical homes in Charleston, South Carolina, sitting north of Tradd St. and south of Elliot St on East Bay Street. It was built in the mid-18th century, but after the Civil War, the area turned into near slum conditions. It wasn't until the early 1900's, that a woman named Dorothy Porcher Legge, purchased a section of the homes on the street and began to renovate them and chose to paint the houses pink based on a colonial Caribbean color scheme, with other owners of the nearby houses following along, creating the "rainbow" of paste colored houses today.
